Culemborg Cape Red is typical of the quality and value that South Africa offers. The 2017 vintage saw drought conditions in many regions. This meant a smaller than usual crop but a greater concentration of both colour and flavour. At the Franschhoek Cellar, Ryan Puttick handpicked parcels of spicy Shiraz, blackcurrant rich Cabernet and soft, fragrant Cinsault and crafted them into this smooth, flavour filled red. It’s a rare blend, but it works brilliantly – as you’ll discover from the wafting berry aromas to the intense, mouthfilling flavours of summer fruit and discreet spice. Now with a few years of age in bottle, this Culemborg Cape Red is a very sociable wine and perfect for sharing with plates of grilled meats.
